Welcome

I'm currently a faculty member in astronomy at the University of St Andrews. My research interests are broadly in the area of young stars, particularly the structure of their magnetic fields and coronae and the mechanisms by which they interact with their disks. I teach courses at all undergraduate levels on a range of subjects from stellar structure through fluid dynamics and MHD.

Hot off the press!

We have recently obtained the first observation of a star flipping its magnetic pole. The star (tau Boo) has a close-in planet that is so massive that it has synchronised the star's rotation to its orbit . This may have driven the magnetic cycle of tau Boo to be shorter than expected.
