  1. Welcome to all the new Galaxies students and postdocs: Indranil Banik, Tim Hewlett, Noelia Jiménez, Maya Petkova, Felipe Ramón, and Layth Tajuldeen!!


  1. This Autumn we are hosting two visitors from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC): Dr. Martin Stringer and Dr. Jesús Falcón-Barroso. They will deliver a lunchtalk for the whole Department on September 25 and October 30, respectively.


  1. High school student Michaela Stewart joined the galaxies group last summer for her Nuffield internship. During her stay in our group she developed a new lab for the first year students, based on Hubble’s Law.   1. Congratulations to Milena Pawlik, who won the first prize in the PhD poster competition at NAM! (Portsmouth, 23-27 June, 2014). Her poster discusses her work on morphological changes in galaxies progressing through a post-starburst phase. (June 2014)


  1. Some summer students have already arrived to the School of Physics and Astronomy. This summer, the Galaxies Group is hosting 12 students who  will develop galaxies-related scientific projects during 6 weeks. Welcome to all of them!!! (June 2014)
